It is no longer news that Hon. Matthew Okorie, fondly called “OgwoSouth” among his people in Aba-South, has fulfilled the promise he made to the good people of Aba-South by accepting to publicly represent them in 2019 Abia State House of Assembly in order to bring back dividends of good governance that Aba-South is lacking.
Nevertheless, what is news is “OgwoSouth 2019”, the official campaign flag-off and public declaration of Hon. Levite Matthew Uchechukwu Okorie for 2019 Abia State House of Assembly under Aba-South constituency. The event took place on Saturday, 15th of September, 2018 at the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Office in Aba, Abia State.
The public declaration of OgwoSouth was nothing like the usual, it was a first for all including APGA Wards’ leaders, LG executives and members. It was the first time a candidate for Abia State House of Assembly will hold a public declaration event to establish his candidacy and mark the commencement of campaigns in Abia State.
According to the Ward Chairman, OgwoSouth took everyone at the Wards and LG by surprise when he informed us of his plans for public declaration. And in barely one week of being physically present in Aba, he has shown me, APGA State Leaders and everyone at the party secretariat that the people of Aba-South are behind him.
“We are surprised by the massive turnout of people at the event, more than five hundred (500) people came to the event to publicly support OgwoSouth. Such number of people have never attended any APGA event at this level. Now, we are sure of one person who has the backing of the people of Aba-South.” said the APGA Women Leader.
Hon. Matthew Okorie while addressing the people gave a brief history about his involvement in Abia politics and how he went abroad to study on scholarship after his Igwebuike Ward 7 2007 election results were hijacked by political detractors who were then in power in Abia State.
According to OgwoSouth, 2019 is the year APGA should take its rightful place in Aba-South and Abia State as a whole because those who are in power now are anti-Abians.
“All the roads in Aba that were constructed by the present Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu are in total disrepair depicting the levels of incompetence that begs for immediate replacement by APGA under the tested, trusted and proven leadership of Alex Otti, a renowned economist” OgwoSouth posited.
In furtherance, OgwoSouth projected Alex Otti, APGA’s main gubernatorial front-runner for Abia State saying “anyone who can successfully handle another person’s business can handle his/her own. Alex Otti’s leadership, service records and professional career in Diamond Bank Plc are astounding, immaculate and worthy of emulation. This is the kind of leadership style Abians deserve. A leader who will not hold the salaries of workers and utilise owed workers’ salaries as bargaining chips to campaign for second term.”
Additionally, OgwoSouth promised APGA that as a covenant child, he will not abandon APGA like the present person who abandoned APGA after he won the Aba-South constituency election under APGA.
OgwoSouth continued by saying “if I could contest under APGA in 2007 and remain in APGA in 2018, nothing will chase me out of APGA in future because I am home in APGA and nothing should chase one out of his home. Nevertheless, APGA must stay true to its own and do the needful now to reclaim its glory in Aba-South by fielding a candidate with the true representation of the people.”
In his closing remarks, OgwoSouth reminded the people of his religious backgrounds saying “as a levite, the son and grandchild of renowned Reverend Ministers of Assemblies of God Church, I am a child of God’s covenant and nothing spiritual or physical can stop God’s anointed.
